Do you work on listed buildings and properties in conservation areas?

Yes. We specialise in sympathetic repair and restoration work that is appropriate for listed buildings and conservation areas. We can provide the necessary drawings for local councils to make decisions on the proposed work and understand the various restrictions placed on these period properties.

How do I get a quote?

Accepted Answer

Each project is unique.  Because of this, it would be necessary for Iain to visit your property to give you an idea of what can be done.  He will assess how much work is involved to restore your windows and follow up with a quote for you. We will get back to you promptly to discuss the work and arrange a convenient date to visit.

Do you offer a free survey or consultation?

Yes. We are happy to visit your property to assess the condition of your windows and advise on the best course of action before you commit to any work.

Why should I repair my timber windows rather than replace them?

Accepted Answer

Original timber windows are often of far higher quality than modern replacements. Repairing and restoring them preserves the character of your property, is usually more cost-effective than full replacement, and is the preferred approach in conservation areas and listed buildings. A well-maintained timber window can last for generations.

My sash windows are painted shut — can you fix them?

Yes, this is one of the most common issues we deal with. We carefully free the sashes, strip back any built-up paint from the channels and rebates, and restore smooth, easy operation.

Can you repair rotten timber window frames?

Accepted Answer

In most cases, yes. We use specialist epoxy repair systems to consolidate and fill areas of rot, restoring the structural integrity of the frame without the need for full replacement. Where rot is too extensive, we can splice in new timber sections to match the original profile.

Can you replace broken or cracked glass in my original windows?

Yes. We can replace individual panes of glass, to match the existing period glass where required.

If my windows are removed, will my property be secure?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Your windows are only taken out when there is a replacement ready to put in.  We will always leave your property secure overnight, if a project runs into more than 1 day.

Will draught proofing make a noticeable difference?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Properly fitted draught proofing seals can significantly reduce cold draughts, lower heating bills and reduce external noise. Many customers notice the difference immediately.

Will the seals be visible once fitted?

Accepted Answer

No. Our brush-pile seals are fitted into the frame itself and are virtually invisible once installed. They do not affect the appearance of your windows.

Can draught proofing be combined with other restoration work?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Draught proofing is often carried out as part of a full sash or casement window restoration, and combining the two is the most cost-effective approach.
